Laura L. Edwards took a risk in 2005 that changed her life forever: she entered into a meditation sabbatical for an 8-month stay at a Benedictine Monastery, where she spent 3 days in silence each week, practiced transcendental meditation and completed an informal independent study in Christian spirituality, gnosticism and the saints. The risk paid off in dividends of peace. She comes to Simplicity Consulting as the result of that journey. (Click here to read an article printed in the Bismark Tribune about her stay there.)
In the 5 years prior, Laura had been living the quintessential "yuppy" dream as a field sales rep, zealously climbing the corporate ladder and acquiring possessions. She opted for a severance package at her last position as a medical sales rep in 2004, and in the subsequent months felt the need to completely change the course of her life.
In the months before entering the sabbatical, she sold all of her things in one day--1500 sq. ft. full of belongings & 3 closets full of clothes, to be specific--and kept a few boxes and a backpack for the next year. She traded in her cell phone, her car, even her 55 pairs of shoes for a sense of peace she had never known.
Sure, letting go of those things was undoubtedly difficult, but once the minutiae was gone from her life she very quickly received the gift of clarity that freedom from attachments brings. Re-entering society proved another challenge altogether. In 2006, she moved to Mill Valley and, finally, San Francisco where she began negotiating with the norms of modern life, choosing only the things which were absolutely necessary (i.e., a cell phone) and maintaining the simple life wherever possible.
From 2006-2008 Laura worked in Household Management, helping high octane San Francisco clients to streamline their busy lives. She feels that Simplicity Consulting is more than organizing your things--to her it is a process of changing your orientation to your attachments, integrating mindfulness and fulfillment. It is an ongoing path of self-awareness.
Laura has not "arrived"! Working with clients continues to be part of her own growth, and she is honored to work with each client as they invite her into their busy lives.
Finally, Laura has a B.A. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. Hook 'em horns.
